New Chimps at the Houston Zoo by Cristina Briagas c/o 16

HOUSTON_The zoo is a place where kids are really happy. Kids see different kinds of animals that they never thought of seeing, like their favorite animal, and they can’t believe it.

Here in Houston we are very lucky that we have a zoo. The zoo has over 6,000 animals including birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and aquatic animals. One of the animals I really like is the elephants- our zoo has seven elephants which are considered McNair Asian Elephants. They have their own habitat and it is very fun, you are able to come watch friends Tupelo and Baylor splash in their pool that contains 80,000 gallons of water. That is really amazing how much water is contained in the elephants habitat.

News that is really exciting is the zoo has bought six chimpanzees. The chimpanzees formally lived at the privately run Windy Oaks Animal Farm in Mechanicsville. Before the six chimpanzees arrived, the zoo only had 10 chimps, but now in total there are 16 chimps. the family of the zoo and the chimps are getting bigger and bigger. You may be wondering what are the names of these 6 chimps are One is named Toby, and others include: Kenya, Kira, Chaos and Sierra. There ages range from about 10 to 17 years old.

There are many attractions at the Houston Zoo that the whole family can enjoy, spending a nice day at the zoo and just having a great time. Go out to the zoo and have the time of your life. Comment below about your favorite animals at our zoo!
